Unique foods, delicious local wines, personable staff. I found the entrees to be quite delicious. The only negative thing about them was how plain the proteins were. Both my steak and my girlfriend's Sole were borderline boring. These were, however, saved by just how delicious their vegetables and other sides were. Tried their spinach salad as an appetizer and it was amazing. The custom vinaigrette was a nice addition to the feta and roasted vegetables. Difficult to visit here with larger groups to a significant space limitation. This does, however, make this an excellent place for an intimate date night which is why I was there.
Just called to make a reservation and advised I utilize a wheelchair for mobility and indicated that I would have two friends who would be assisting me in/out of the restaurant as there are a couple of stairs. I was advised that they were were concerned that if anything happened....I would be a "liability". I thanked the person I was speaking to; let them know I would be letting people know; and hung up without listening further. So very sad as I have regularly visited many inaccessible sites, noting I am happy to arrange for assistance, without ever being advised I'm a liability.Update: just received the following message, noting Courtenay also followed-up with a heartfelt telephone message last evening after she heard what transpired when she was away from her workplace. I had a grand chat with Courtenay and I truly do feel for the people that are now experiencing her wrath as I do believe we are two souls cut from the same cloth when it comes to respectful human behaviour and human rights law . For now, I'm holding off on going to lunch/dinner as I'm saving that for when Sydney Grace is in Nanaimo however I would like to take a poll of where the funds should be donated that Courtenay speaks of. It is noteworthy that I'm completely satisfied with the natter I had with Courtenay today and I'm hopeful that all of my fb family will recognize that significant knowledge transfer has transpired, with increased awareness, which I'm sure will be applied in the day-to-day living of the folks that work at Fiddlehead Bistro. So, in not holding onto any negative energy, where should the funds go?Hi Arlene, thank you very much for your phone call today.I'm sure by now you're tired of hearing my incessant apologies, but I must offer them once more. I have never been so embarrassed in my life. The only silver lining is that we can use this opportunity to learn and grow into better people! I appreciate your assistance with that.I know there is no way to truly make this right.. But in an effort to try, I would like to offer you lunch/dinner for you and the ladies you were trying to reserve for. Full meals, drinks, everything on me. No questions asked. We also do ticketed events periodically and have been looking for a local cause to donate the profits. I wonder if we can work together on finding a charity? I think this is an opportunity to help us grow and make amends.Again, my profuse apologies. I cannot stress enough that what you heard from us yesterday is not how we do business. I implore you to give us a second chance.Thank you again for speaking with me today. I look forward to working with you on this matter!Courtenay DarwinFOH Manager - Fiddlehead Bistro
